Christopher P. Davis currently holds the position of Lecturer of Trombone at the Northwestern
University and Wheaton College Conservatory where he teaches undergraduate and graduate
trombone and coaches chamber music. As Director of the Northwestern University Trombone
Choir and coach of chamber music, his groups have won the 2017 Emory Remington Trombone
Choir Competition and Trombone Quartet Competition in 2018 hosted by the International
Trombone Festival. Formerly the bass trombone fellow with the New World Symphony and
Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Christopher has performed with orchestra’s in Buffalo,
Cincinnati, Chicago, Cleveland, Colorado, Detroit, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Utah, and St. Paul.
As a soloist, he has won the Evanston Music Club Solo Competition, Union League Civic and
Arts Foundation Classical Music Scholarship, Minnesota Orchestra Zellmer Orchestral
Trombone Competition, and the Alessi Seminar Solo Competition. He is also one of the
founding members of the CT3 Trombone Quartet that won the International Trombone
Association’s Quartet Competition.
Christopher has presented masterclasses and recitals at the Isla Verde Bronces Brass Festival
(Argentina), Texas State University, Western Carolina University, Eastern Illinois University,
Snow College, and Illinois Wesleyan University.
Christopher can be heard on recordings with The Buffalo Philharmonic (Novak: In the Tatra
Mountains), Minnesota Orchestra (Mahler Symphony No. 2), and Elgin Symphony Orchestra
(Copland American Classics). Christopher is a lover of Jazz music and can also be heard with
Greg Ward’s 10 Tongues on Touch My Beloved’s Thought and bassist Matt Ulery’s Festival with
Loom/Large.
Christopher received his BM from Illinois Wesleyan University and his MM from Northwestern
University where he studied with Dr. Thomas Streeter, Michael Mulcahy, Charles Vernon, and
Randall Hawes. Christopher is a native of Harvey, Illinois and resides in Chicago.
